The day I discovered blogs, it was like the sky opened, angels sang, and a bolt of lightening hit me between the eyes saying, YOU CAN DO THIS.
Okay, not really. But six months after beginning to read blogs, I launched my own in March of 2004. Called "And I Wasted All That Birth Control," it focused on my personal struggle with infertility, but soon grow to encompass most elements of my life including political rants, my struggles with spirituality, recovery and addiction, pop culture, and more. I finally got pregnant six months after the launch of the blog (but about three years after we started trying) with twin boys, but developed severe preeclampsia, causing the death of my sons and nearly killing me as well. Fortunately, in June of 2006, my wild and fierce daughter Tori was born (also in an emergency situation, but all's well that ends well, right?).
When my daughter was about a year old I realized I needed to re-brand the blog. I held a contest asking for title suggestions from my readers, picked my five favorites, and everyone voted. This is how Uppercase Woman was born.
As my blog has grown in popularity, I've had opportunities to write for other sites, work as a brand ambassador, and speak at many blogging conferences. It's been a joyful and heady experience.
My blog currently receives about 80,000 unique page views a month, and has over 2,300 subscribers via email and RSS feeds (I've chosen to publish full feeds). My blog has been and continues to be a community of people of disparate backgrounds and opinions. My blog is an intensely personal blog, often tackling subjects other "mom" blogs avoid, and uses language that might not be safe for your work computer.
As a blogger, here are a few of the companies I've worked with as a writer or brand ambassador.
